Expectations and change

Obama should win. That is the view held by most Europeans. It turns out to be that if Obama would run in number of EU countries he would have a fair chance of winning as well. So is it a change we can believe in or expectations that have been raised to breathtaking heights?

Being a better match for Presidential position after the G.W. can not be that difficult, but running the USofA in a truly "different" way might be beyond the capacity of one person, no matter how attractive his personality, abilities or determination is. Will "Obama-mania" infect or disaffect? This we will have to wait and see, one thing is clear though Europeans need to scale back their expectations. Obama will be different, but at the end of the day he is defending and promoting the interest of the US and therefore some tensions are going to be unavoidable. Crucial areas to watch will be obviously trade talks, Afghanistan and civil liberties vs security.

With another day to go before the elections. I still believe that "YES, WE CAN!".
